THE INFORMERS

So I went and saw this movie last night. It was alright. Not great. It felt toned down from the book. I understand that it would of been hard to make it the way the novel was without having a NC-17 rating or worse, but i felt like it left out moments that really made the stories. The way it was filmed i enjoyed. Everything had this eighties glitter and gleam to eat. The clothes were amazing as was the music. I also agreed with the casting choices.

I wouldn't turn down the chance to see it, just don't expect that much. I guess I would give it 3 stars.

What the F? I'm not sure how this makes me feel. While i tend to enjoy stuff linked towards drug culture and black and fight film stock, this leaves me unnerved and a little amazed. I just cant believe it. The kid is so young.

I found these photos you see in this post that really grabbed a hold of my attention. First the owl (one of my favorite animals), then the human skull which i to am found of skulls. But these skulls were covered in black fur. I was intrigued!

Moments later i was at the website for a artist named Jason Clay Lewis (www.jasonclaylewis.com). I don't really want to get into back ground and all that jazz, just the art.

I discovered that the 3 sculptures i liked also had 2 more and where part of an ongoing series of sculptures, drawings, installations and photos called The Renewal Serious.

The Renewal Serious has been 4 exhibits so far. The first was The Black Death (which the sculptures i liked were from), second was God of War, then Devour, and lastly Drop Dead Gorgeous. I was taken back by the work and reference in all this work. Dark, human, grotesque, and true, Jason Clay Lewis has a fresh, dark, humorous point of view worth taking look at.

If you know me, you know that I'm always on the look out for new and interesting music. Lately I've grown really fond of noise, or drone music. Letters Letters is a new band from Montreal. There on Type Records, a branch of Morr Music Records (one of my favorite labels, home to the likes of Mum, Seabear, Lali Puna, and The Notwist). This trio from Canada has taken noise and experimentation to a poppy sort of sound. Great beats and synth work with a dirty, gritty edge to it. There self titled album is quite good, especially as a debut album.

And that's that. Be there friend on myspace (www.myspace.com/lettersletters), they don't have many and that's a damn shame. You can purchase the album at Type Records website, www.typerecords.com, or at emusic.com.

This character was listed on a website for having a horrible movie accent. I thought he did a good job-not 'horrible' at all. Supposedly, he received a lot of s*** for it from critics & viewers. How much better can you get: a white man imitating an asain. I can't think of anyone else doing this before him, for comparison value.

And I thought this was a great film still.

The Verve Chair by L

Now that Milan’s Furniture Fair 2008 has come and gone, the ripple effect is still being felt by a number of designer’s inspirational works of art which is fit for human habitations. Well, at least some of it is fit for human use. Among the plethora of origami shelves, uber modern matted grey sofas, and space-cadet lighting systems glimmered a simplistic chair that tittered on the line of precocious. Who am I kidding, John Sebastian’s Verve chair is astonishing.

No, I am not referencing the founder of “The Lovin’ Spoonful”. John Sebastian, a Danish designer (surprise surprise), who début the Verve chair at the Milan Fair, constructed this remarkable piece out of a single 6mm piece of Corian, utilizing thermoforming technology. Mind you, Corian, is generally used for cladding walls or countertops, and not as applicable when developing stellar seating. Mr. Sebastian proved otherwise. It is durable, stackable and pretty swank. It harps of Verner Panton most notable and iconic piece the Panton Chair (see below)while adding a clever twist and utility. It’s brilliant!

House of Holland by L

The strange thing about the House of Holland is its bombastic, yet pleasant merge of seemingly nonsense printed phrases on shirts that vaguely remind you of the early/mid 90’s, with vivid subject matter that made statement that you were simply indifferent to. Hell, you bought it because you thought it was cool. By utilizing vivid prints with statements like “ Flick Yer bean For Agyness Deyn” or “ Give Us A Blow Dais Lowe” you will inevertantly receive numerous inquires regarding the tee.

This may elicit as response from you (while embodying a pure sense of cleverly masked announce) “I simple love the shirt.” However, from time to time you will encounter a few well chosen enlighten individuals that will recognize that you are giving a nod to paramount, revolutionary and fresh creative individuals within the ever so capricious realm of fashion. Of course this is simultaneously done in a sharp tongue in cheek manner. You may not be wearing a tacky mundane logo, whose party of “high fashion” publicists has successful convinced you to be their unpaid product campaign.

The collection is divided into 3 subgroup (i.e. Fashion Groupies, One Trick Pony, and Stephanie & Axl) are playful, candy coated displays of brilliant simplicity that convey a sense of childish vitality and seemingly adult content. Henry Holland, the brain child of the mischievous apparel, set out to make uber hyper-hip tees that are utterly delightful and, again, simply brilliant. Who cares if it is super cool. In fact, it’s the point. Besides, 15 years from now when some disillusioned kid stumble on a few of these tees either in our closet or the thrift store rack, they will encounter an opportunity to venture into the the world in which we are so disparately attempting to define ourselves.

For some reason Kurt Cobain popped in my head today. Maybe it because i have flannel on. Maybe it's because I'm feeling quite "grungy". I'm not really sure. I do know that he was there. Moments later i had found some really great photos of him that I'm showing below along with a great video for Nirvana's song "In Bloom".

I also started to think about if he where still alive. Would he be still be making music? Would he of really quit his suffocating addictions? Would he and Courtney Love still be together? Or is the fact that his death, with out sounding horrible, more of an impact on our society?

I was 15 when he died, so I think it's interesting now at 28 that I'm seeing how much his music has influenced bands and such today. Anyway, I'm not trying to get really serious. I just wanted to pay a little tribute to someone that made a pretty big impact on me.

Lauren Nassef is a busy women. After graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2001 she became a freelance illustrator. She has had many works published and such.

Hello Kitty. The cutest adult friendly kids toy character ever created. I personally wish I knew about her when I was a child. I loved cats. And of all the felines I collected, not one single one was a Hello Kitty or friends. Tthe first time I was introduced to her I cannot recall, but it may have been here in Maryland. There was an Asian showing me Chococat (even better than HK) whom I was mad about. I would buy these toys that I had absolutley no use for just 'cause she (HK) was cute. The coolest HK product I bought was a car air freshner. It plugged into yr vent and it was heart shaped with HK attached to a spring so she bounced in a way. $16. I was 19 years old. The scent was lovely, although I cannot descibe it-pardon my memory. Anyway, this photo is great. It'd be kooler if it was Kate Moss under there, but the model isn't skinny or short enough.

I woke up this morning, after being quite tipsy last nite and having sipped on my post dinner coffee from last nite I have quite the rush so it's a caffienated hangover. Does that make sense? I know I'll crash later more than likely, but that's okay-it's that kind of nite where it's gross outside and you just wanna stay inside...Bottle of wine, Netflix, and if yr roomate is home, may I beat you in a game of slap???

During my latest adventures with the Internet I found a website a rather amusing website that helped kill some time. It can be funny, offensive, sexy, curious, and very inspiring. LP Cover Lovers (you can find the link in the blog roll) has it all. There are sooooo many to look at. All sorts of different categories and styles. Gay, Lounge, Drugs, Soundtracks, Fashion, Truckers, Classical, and fun stuff I've never heard of before. Quite amazing. Below are some of my favorites.

I rented this documentary last week about one of the more infamous of Andy Warhol's Superstars, Brigid Berlin. "Pie in the Sky: The Brigid Berlin Story" was everything and more.

Brigid Berlin, also known as Brigit Polk, struggled with weight, money, drugs, and Andy much of her life. She was a regular staple at the Factory, an amazing Polaroid photographer, and a muse to Andy Warhol ("The Philosophy's of Andy Warhol: A to B and Back Again" has a whole section dedicated to a phone call they once had). So anyway, I don't really want to give much more of this amazing woman's life away. Rent the movie.

But I'm including a clip from Chelsea Girls, one of the many Andy film's she starred in the post above.
